Why buy used?

There are plenty of reasons for someone to choose used over new when looking for a used video game console.

  • Big savings: You'll generally save 20-30% when buying used over new!

  • Less Waste: You'll be helping the planet by purchasing a used video game console

  • Access to older titles: When purchasing an older generation of console you can get access to older gems that are timeless.

  • Supporting Local Business/community: Shopping for a used video game console within your local market helps support your local economy; everyone wins!

The Guide

Each console has particular strengths and weaknesses when it comes to what it offers you!

XBOX SERIES/ONE

Xbox's Master Chief showing off his moves!

PROS

  • Backwards compatibility: The Xbox Series/One offers exceptional backwards compatibility and the other major consoles can't compete. The Series/One can play select titles from previous generations such as the Xbox 360 and original Xbox. Xbox One controllers even work on the new Xbox Series!

  • Instant Game Library: The Xbox offers various levels of game-pass that give you access to an instant library of games that can be downloaded. Titles like Skyrim, Call Of Duty, and other big name titles are available on Game-Pass, some even as early as day one! (sold separately)

  • Rewards Points: By purchasing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate you can earn rewards points just by playing games! Earn points multipliers up x4 to really cash in and redeem rewards points for Microsoft Store cards or more!

CONS

  • If you choose to use it Game-Pass ultimate is expensive, $33.99/month.

  • Series S: The Series S is a good entry point to get into the newest generation; but the console itself is lacking in graphical and processing power; meaning your graphic options are limited and some games will be locked at 30fps.

PLAYSTATION 4/5

A Cat and his slave experience the thrills of PlayStation

PROS

  • Single Player Games: Sony is the expert at making compelling Single Player experiences that leave you wanting more! Some of these great titles are: Ghost of Tsushima, God Of War Ragnarok, KillZone, Spider-Man and many more!

  • Backwards compatibility: The PS5 is backwards compatible with most PS4 games; your digital and physical library of PS4 games will get some extra life!

  • VR offerings: The PS4 and PS5 both offer VR headsets to really immerse yourself!

CONS

  • Loud PS4 systems: Some used PlayStation 4 console fans can get very loud, make sure to check out the noise level of the console before purchasing.

  • Expensive controllers: The Playstation consoles have always had expensive controllers, with the newest PS5 controller costing around $94.99 at major retailers. (We sell ours for $64.95 plus tax so make sure to check with us before buying new!)

NINTENDO SWITCH/SWITCH 2

Nintendo's Mario rocking out!

PROS

  • Portability: The Switch and Switch 2 are known for their versatility! With options to play on a T.V. Screen or handheld you'll never have to stop playing!

  • Family Friendly Games: Nintendo is the king of making family friendly games that everyone can play! You'll be sure to find something that everyone enjoys playing!

  • Switch 2 Backwards compatibility: The Switch 2 can play most Switch games; your old Switch library can still deliver hours of awesome gameplay

CONS

  • Restricted Library: A lot of the newest games won't be arriving on the Switch or Switch 2 as the console doesn't have the necessary processing power to play them.

  • Mods: Nintendo has been cracking down on users that mod their switches; they have been known to lockout modded switch consoles from Nintendo services
